Synopsis:
This workshop explores the science– the knowledge of things – of psychotherapy to deepen your understanding of the underlying mechanisms of psychotherapy in the context of the whole person from brain to body to genes. We will learn how to integrate scientific understandings into your assessments and enhance your process of attuning with the client, their needs and capacities. Scientific perspectives will include neuroscience, biology and genetics with a focus on natural systems and how these neural and biological systems interact in producing our mental, emotional and behavioural states. We will look at the latest understanding of what emotions are and how they can be considered to inform us about the client’s sense of self, biological conditions, and genetic/epigenetic processes. At the end of the workshop, you will have a deeper insight into the many ways in which the whole person emerges out of the actions and interactions occurring within.Your ability to recognise what the client’s symptoms are saying will enhance your rapport, your attunement, and your effectiveness as a therapist.
